MSTS ROUTE CHESAPEAKE OHIO CABIN CREEK SERIES
I think the Model Railroad concept with Trainz as a whole itself is good as it is so unless you can somehow make it so it's very easy for a normal user ( think those NOT on this forum that have had the series of sims for years) I don't think this will have much success as theyll buy it and throw it in the corner because they cant figure it out. My only concern at the moment is price - given the collapse of the GBP£ post-Brexit vote, even against the AUS$.

In fact it might take as long to build as a prototype route stretched out to the equivalent length. And while there's plenty of room for attention to detail, the constraints of a model environment mean there is less to worry about placing or decorating distant scenery.Īnd again as I noted a few weeks ago, some model railroads are incredibly complex and take an age to run a train round - the Pasadena Sierra Pacific comes to mind.

However there's loads of layout plans I've collected over the years in magazines, annuals and latterly on-line which would probably never get built in plywood and plaster but here is a chance to do them in virtuality. My first interest will always be in creating prototype routes, be that in Trainz, MSTS, TS20xx or whatever comes next. as noted in the previous thread (not sure where it's gone with an apparent forum re-org) there is a place for a product which brings together the elements for making a model railway in one place. I for one am quite looking forward to this. I'll continue to gravitate to real-realism, rather than model-realism. I'm glad that makes some people happy, and I know from Trainz' early history that they're good at it. You can keep your digital rooms of small-scale trains. But what's game-changing - and, I believe, profitable to the company that develops it - is global-scale. Think model airplanes and RC versus FSX - Sure: some people may spend their time digitally reproducing their models and RC (in a sim). But what the majority of us can't do in real life is help build a full-scale railroad, or go on a real-world coast-to-coast interconnected rail journey, or point to a place on a globe and visit a famous full-scale railroad there. I prefer prototypical, which a lot of railfans like.Īs I said years ago, I supported TANE because I thought it would take further steps towards prototyping and connecting an entire "world of rails." I can and do have model train layouts in real life. This will also give me another reason to keep watching out for TSW, because I am not into the model railroad. We have plenty more prototypical routes heading your way. I would also like to point out that this version of Trainz is an additional product line and not a complete change of direction. It is likely to still be in beta testing when we release TMR. SP2 is currently in testing to ensure compatibility with TMR content.
